🎧 The power of a playlist
and how it helped me rewrite my self-love story
It’s strange to think that there was a time I didn’t know how to love myself well.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a work in progress. I still have layers of lies to lay to rest. But and also, I choose to celebrate the progress I’ve made and make everyday.
As I look back on some of the choices that helped shape the journey, I think about the time I decided to create a playlist of love songs I wanted to dedicate to myself.
The idea was inspired by Adele’s song One And Only. I remember listening to it, loving it and not long after, grabbing my notebook and writing a poem inspired by it.
The poem was called I Dare You.
And It was about having the audacity to be the love of your life.
That poem went on to inspire a playlist ↓
That playlist went on to inspire the practice of asking myself …
What would it look like to see myself as the love of my life?
How would that change the way I spoke to myself?
How would that transform the way I treated myself?
How would that shift how I showed up in the world?
And the practice of asking myself these questions went on to inspire countless journal entries and eventually my daily choices.
Little by little, I chose to accept the dare: to see myself as the love of my life and to live into that truth as often and imperfectly as possible.
Much like any love story, I didn’t always get it right and still don’t. But unlike being in a love story with someone else, my relationship with myself is forever. And that means I will never give up. I will never walk away. I am here for me.
Maybe, like me were never told about the power in treating yourself like the love of your life. Perhaps, like me, you didn’t always know it was ok to be that for yourself.
The truth is, none of that matters more than finally choosing to plant the seed and nurturing it as you go, in ways that feel most aligned for you.
Adele did that for me. Maybe today it's my turn to do that for you. And maybe one day, not too far from now, you'll be the one to do it for someone else ♥️
This one goes out to you,
